So what's Up with the $15,000 Tax Credit in the new Stimulus Bill?Everyone in Real Estate is talking and hoping that this amendment added to the Economic Stimulus package currently making
its way onto President Obama's desk will stimulate home buying. Will it work? And what are the details (where the
devil is)? It looks good on the surface: The $15,000 tax credit can be taken over one year or
two years. It does not have to be repaid. It will apply to anyone who buys a home -- not just first-time home
buyers. The tax credit is a credit, not a deduction, meaning you will get the full $15,000. The $15,000 tax credit
is the lesser of $15,000 or 10% of the price of the home. It will be allowed for homes purchased within one year of
when the bill is passed. The former tax credits of $7500 for first-time homebuyers, which was in place in previous
years, will no longer need to be repaid.
Okay, so these are some tidbits that I've come across
during research on the topic. Has anyone found additional info? Why will or won't this help our real estate markets?
